What the Flock?

💡 What is a Flock at flocks.digital?

A Flock is a team of digital experts with similar or complementary skills in the context of delivering specific digital services to our customers, such as building a mobile app, integrating an ERP system, designing a website, etc. These specific digital services of all Flocks together form the service portfolio of the Flocks.digital platform.

Operating model

Flocks are the cornerstone of the Flocks.digital platform. They share sales opportunities that are not part of a Flock’s core expertise with other Flocks that do possess this expertise. They also purchase supporting business capabilities (such as legal, accounting, etc.) provided by the flocks.digital platform, achieving economies of scale and a faster go-to-market.

A Flock is founded and managed by one or two digital experts, known as the Flock (co-)founder(s). A Flock consists of a maximum of 10 to 15 members, ensuring optimal collaboration between the founders and the group members. A larger number of group members is certainly possible, but in that case, it’s recommended to establish multiple Flocks, each with its own (co-)founder(s).

When starting a Flock, the goal is to maximize the Flock’s operating revenues. This process is known as bootstrapping and has the advantage of requiring founders to relinquish less equity. This, of course, only applies if the founders choose to establish their own legal entity within the flocks.digital platform, which is not mandatory, as explained in the next section.

Encouraging entrepreneurship and a fair distribution of a Flock’s equity between the platform and the Flock founders are essential values for flocks.digital. Therefore, we offer Flock founders the opportunity to bootstrap their Flock as a separate legal entity with a flexible and fair equity split between flocks.digital and the founders.

However, establishing a separate legal entity is not mandatory. Flocks can also operate under flocks.digital or the legal entity of an existing Flock. This is also typical for how new Flocks are launched and only incorporated under a separate legal entity when the new Flock has reached sufficient critical mass.

Why would I start a flock?

Flock founders, for example, join forces to realize larger and more challenging projects for their clients.

Imagine the following situation: you are an experienced IT expert, an expert in your field. Your current or potential employer/client is looking for a new solution. You know exactly how to build it, but you don’t have enough available time to implement it alone within the expected delivery timeframe. However, with one or more extra pairs of hands, it could be feasible. This is a perfect use case for starting a Flock within flocks.digital.

However, this is just one of many possible Flock use cases. See the Join Use page for more example use cases.
